If reason has deserted you and now seems like a good time to come into the sweltering West End, might we suggest that you travel via the capacious and exquisitely air-conditioned Elizabeth Line to Tottenham Court Road (Dean Street exit). From there to here is just far enough to heat up to a temperature where you will appreciate the full benefit of our just-restored aircon, currently at a balmy 22 degrees.

About us

Since 1902 MacCulloch & Wallis had supplied the fashion trade with fine fabrics and trimmings from the same central London premises between Oxford Street and Bond Street in the heart of Mayfair. Until April 2015 the store still looked much the same as it would have done in the decade before MacCulloch & Wallis moved in when a cross-legged tailor sat in the window plying his trade. After many decades of squeezing yet more and more stock into what seemed to be a shrinking space we have now moved to a more open and accessible space in Soho.

In 2015 we said goodbye to Dering street and moved 400 paces East from Oxford Circus into the heart of theatreland where we continue to ply our trade in our exciting 'new' shop at 25 Poland Street where you will now find us. The new shop is tidily arranged over two large floors, rather than five small floors, so we can spend less time looking for errant stock and more time helping you to choose it.

Now it's 2022 and we celebrate 120 years of M&W by having made it through the pandemic (assuming that's mostly over) and out the other side with the shop intact and a thriving online business. We have seen more film companies passing through with the many months of online entertainment spawning an explosion in streaming services. We also now have a large and unique range of knitting yarns and have expanded our merchandise generally to accommodate our customers' growing needs as many of our neighbours have moved away from Central London.
